Error messages when performing hard symbolic link (Windows 10)

Question

Saturday, October 8, 2016 3:11 PM

Hi,

The hard drive on my laptop is small and I use a NAS drive to store my data.  I want my data to be backed up my the OneDrive process and the information from the Microsoft onedrive forum 'how to backup a nas to onedrive' tells us that this can be done by created a hard symbolic link (mklink /J) between the OneDrive directory on my c:\ drive and the directory on my NAS drive.

Unfortunately when I do this I get the error:

'Local Volumes are required to complete this operation'

I am running the cmd prompt as administrator and all link types are enabled according to the command: fsutil behaviour query SymlinkEvaluation

Would anyone be able to help?

Thanks

Hi,

Please refer to this link below for some information.

There is a case also talks about the same error message.

From my survey, the following command is worth trying.

mklink /d \directory\folder location\as deep as you wish to go> \<server\directory\folder name>\as deep as you wish to go>

the first location is where you wish to place the link and the second location is where the data is that you want linked.

Regards
