Hi,

I am not able to open MSI setup (.vdproj)  in Visual Studio 2015 community. I have tried to install 'InstallShield Limited Editon'. But it supports only 2015 Professional Edition.

Please help me.

Thank you,

Mary Durom

Dear Mary,

Welcome to the MSDN forum.

For VS 2015 editions, the InstallShield Limited Edition is free for users Visual Studio Professional and Enterprise editions and you VS is community edition, it looks like not support, please have a look at this document: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn531020.aspx. As an alternative, you can distribute applications and components by using ClickOnce, which requires network connectivity. See ClickOnce Security and Deployment.

Or you have a try to install the VS 2015 Installer Project extension through open VS community 2015 –Tools--Extensions and Updates, select the online node, and search for "Visual Studio Installer Projects Extension" and choose to install, I tried to install it on my VS community 2015 with update 1 and it installed successfully as the following screenshot. You can also download directly from this page: https://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/f1cc3f3e-c300-40a7-8797-c509fb8933b9, and see if this cannot reach your requirement or not.

If you have any other issue, please feel free to let me know.

Best regards,

Sara
