What is CBDHSvc.dll ?

Question

Hi all

I was checking what the svchost is executing in the background and I found a dll where I could not find any information on the web to it: CBDHSvc.dll

On the details tab I see that it is labeled as Microsoft Clipboard History - copyright Microsoft and so on ... seems to be all legit, but I guess you can write stuff like this yourself while creating a dll file.

I checked on other PC's and did not found it under C:\Windows\System32

I just recently installed my PC - I tought like, ok maybe this is something new, but the date in details told me that it was from 15th Sept 2018 ... I also found it at Windows WinSxS\amd64_microsoft_windows_clipboard_userservice_<GUID> (or something close to a GUID)

edit: Of course I was finding the info only on virus related sites - who else is uploading a log of his dll's? Please don't get a shock when you are directed here from one of the search engines!

Whenever I was finding something on the internet it was somehow related to a virus ... which worries me.

One guy is writing that a windows update got marked as Virus by his Virusscanner - and in the log there was:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe -k ClipboardSvcGroup -p -s cbdhsvc

Maybe I make myself crazy here but also I have never heard of a clipboardSVCGroup ... which is the group the service runs at ...

Regards

Check Start > Settings > System then Clipboard on the left. Clipboard history is now part of Windows 10.

That dll found on my machine, not sure what other machine you checked, perhaps different build? (1803 not 1809?)

Thanks for the quick reply.

I guess it is related to that article - which also states you need to have the October 2018 update.

Puuuh I'm relieved :) It would be nice if I can check the dll's against a repository from Microsoft to check if the details information is correct - maybe there is a way but I guess I need to google a bit more.

You can submit your .dll file to virustotal over their web service and they will scan and verify its authenticity for you, all free of course. :)
