Question
Saturday, February 29, 2020 4:41 AM
My computer was running normally. I shut it down and physically moved my computer (very carefully) to a different location and hooked it up to my monitor and attempted to boot it. I received a "bad system config info" error - I couldn't get into safe mode and I do not have a restore point. I used the command prompt method instead and tried the regback method but it says no files found. I"m assuming because my computer has windows 10 version 1803. Is there anything else I can do?
I was wondering if I decide to "reset my pc and keep my personal files" - will it save any files/videos/pics etc that are saved to my desktop? Also will my firefox favourites still be there even though I don't have a firefox profile?

Are you facing this problem only with Safemode?
Are you able to boot into Windows normally?

Hi,
Bug Check 0x74: BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO occurs if the SYSTEM hive is corrupt.
This bug check indicates that there is an error in the registry.
For your reference:

If you couldn't get into safe mode, I suggest using installation media to restore or reset your PC.
1.Select Troubleshoot, Advanced options and Command Prompt.
2.Type or paste bootrec /repairmbr and hit Enter. This will rebuild the Master Boot Record.
3.Reboot your computer and retest.
Also, system Reset, whether you chose “Keep my files” or “Remove everything”, requires a re-install all desktop apps (programs).
It'll give you the option to backup your files, third-party applications will be erased.
Hope above information can help you.

thanks for your reply...
Now - I can't get even get the automatic repair option, the computer is stuck in an endless loop where it detects an issue when trying to start, and tries to reboot...keeps going.
Before the above happened, I did try to do the system reset and keep my personal files, but it didn't work.
Now I'm trying to scan my hdd (its a dell computer) with an hdd scanner but it can't read it...apparently Dell computers are formatted in such a way that it's not easily readable from outside the OS....are u familiar with that?

Hi,
Do you have a Windows installation disc?
You can prompt your computer to boot from the CD rather than from the main hard drive, allowing you to erase the hard drive and then reformat it.
If you cannot boot from a usb/dvd, you may contact to Dell Support for further help.
