Computer can no longer see folders in mapped drive. (Windows 10)

Question

Tuesday, September 18, 2018 8:46 PM

So one of our users had an error pop up today while she was working on her local machine doing stuff in a mapped drive that's on the server. Her explorer crashed, and when it reloaded all of the directories in the mapped drive disappeared. All other mapped drives are fine, it's just happening in this one.

Checked the server and other users, all documents are there and no one else has any issues. When I log onto the machine as domain admin, I can see the mapped drive just like she can, but its empty. Whats odd is that it also shows the incorrect disk space.

If the user RDP's into the terminal server, which is where they do 90% of their work, the drive shows the correct disk space, and all the directories are in there as they should be. So I verified it isnt a permissions issue since shes using the same user account on the TS as the local. Verified network discovery settings were all good, I even did a windows restore to last Friday night (issue didnt happen until this morning after she had been successfully working in the drive.)

Went to the registry and removed all trace of that mapped drive also. No clue what else to do other then basically wipe and reload windows on the machine, which I'm worried about not working since the restore point didnt. Going back on site tomorrow morning to try to get this resolved. Anyone seen something like this before?

===Sugg4===

1. Type Control Panel in the search box from Start and press Enter

After a second read of your post I noticed that you didn't say there were any errors when the user tried to access the share, for example by opening a Run Dialog box and navigating directly to it.  This led me to thinking about DFS, perhaps givethis line of troubleshooting a go.

Can you check for any issues with the user profile on the local machine? I would suggest either logging on as Admin if the Share has granted view permissions from the local machine or having the user try logging on to a different machine and then accessing the Share.
