File name reverts to old name after changing it

Question

Monday, October 28, 2019 11:26 PM

Hello

When I change file names they automatically revert back to the old name. How do I prevent that from happening? I do not need to know why it is happening just how to fix it.

Thank you

Hi,

Is there any program will read the file?

Generally file will not be renamed automatically unless there is a script or any program trying to do so. So you should check any program which may relate to that specific file.

Meanwhile you can test to Deny Delete permission on that file after renaming to name2 - it will fail to be renamed to name1 and you could audit the access denied behavior to at least find out the exact time when it trying to rename the file and maybe the account name.

Best Regards,

Daniel

Hi Jean,

Do you have any application reading these files that are automatically reverted to their old file names?

In general a file will not be renamed automatically unless there is a script or any application trying to do so.

I'd check if any application is reading/opening these files which may be renaming the files back to their old file names.

Meanwhile you can try with the Deny Delete permission as Daniel mentioned above.

Best regards,
Leon
