Excel 2013: this command is not available in a shared workbook (workbook not shared)

Question

Hi Folks,

A staff member is using Excel 2013, and receives the error: "this command is not available in a shared workbook" when trying to copy an existing sheet as a new sheet.

The Workbook is not shared.

I don't receive the same error if I open the Workbook, and copy and paste the same sheet.

Help appreciated.

Regards,

Steve.

Hi Steve,

Where did you use this file in local computer or network?

Based on your error message, it seems that turn on the Share option in Excel.

I suggest you try this method:

  1. Please go to Review then click Share Workbook option in Excel.
  2. Make sure uncheck the box "Allow changes by more than one user at the same time. This also allows workbook merging".

Now please check if it works fine now, if your issue still exists please provide more information about your issue.

I'm glad to help and follow up your reply.
