Question

Hello,
I added a User policy for the MS Excel macros but cannot get this one to apply, the following policy is;
VBA Macro Notification Settings
I know it's not recommended to enable all macros, however, when I set this policy and run the gpupdate /force command on my PC or anyone else's PC the Excel security options setting does not ever change. It doesn't modify the MS Excel Security setting at all. I have also added it as a trusted location and it will run, but the Macro Warning still shows up when during the loading the excel file.
As mentioned, the "Trust Center" settings in Excel for macros never changes. I've modified the group policy for MS Office 2010, 2013, and 2016 and none of them are taking this update.
Our Active Directory/Group Policy is on a Server2008R2 with the updated group policies for all the MS Office product's.
Is it possibly from a Microsoft Windows Update?
Or
Could it be that the Domain Controller needs to be on a newer Version of Windows Server rather than Server2008 R2?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you,

Hi,
Please go to this path in user computer's Registry Editor:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\16.0\excel\security
Make sure there is a key named vbawarnings, if the key is applied this means the policy setting is applied for the user.
And the value for the key:
Disable all with notification
Value Name vbawarnings
Value Type REG_DWORD
Value 2
**Disable all except digitally signed macros **
Value Name vbawarnings
Value Type REG_DWORD
Value 3
**Disable all without notification **
Value Name vbawarnings
Value Type REG_DWORD
Value 4
**Enable all macros (not recommended) **
Value Name vbawarnings
Value Type REG_DWORD
Value 1
If possible, I suggest you set the policy in user computer directly and check if the key will be created above location in Registry Editor. This will help you test if this problem is related to DC apply Group Policy for users.
Any updates please let me know and I'm glad to help you.
Regards,
Emi
