Hi all,
been searching around this issue a lot and it seems like an issue that is known for a while.
Issue:
- Status in main skype window at bottom right says cannot sync with address book.
- EWS and MAPI shows OK
- GAL gives error cannot sync address book cause file could not be found.
Even with this error, users are able to search for other users in company (even newly created users,less than a day ago)
Troubleshooting:
- Test-CsAddressBookService on pool or directly on frontend server gives status success.
- GAL, csaddressbook,OAB have also been updated (client and server side)
- New profiles
If we set clientpolicy to websearch only, it will work for a while but fails again after a day or two.
This issue is same if sit on internal network or outside corporate network.
It have been tested with 2 accounts on 2 different pcs (newly installed) both experience same issue.
We then tested same accounts on Skype for business 2013 and 2016. We then came to conclusion that this error does not occur with 2013 clients (15.0.4763.1001).
On 2016 (16.0.4229.1024) this issue occur. As far as I can remember, this problem started after latest October update.
We are trying to find a computer with older 2016 version to see if issue is there, but so far no luck since we update our clients as soon as its released.
Does anyone experience the same issue with 2016 clients?

As far as I known, it is now a known issue for Skype for Business 2016. A similar thread is here:

Just want to add that I have also installed another office update and Skype for business is now at version 16.0.6001.1034 (32 bit) and issue is the same.
Strange part is that this update is not in latest version of Clicktorun from the portal. I got this update thru Software center.
Then we wait for an update and will notify issued users.

I too have experienced this, which is what led me to this post. I am running Skype for Business 2016 (16.0.4266.1001) 32-Bit with the exact same issue. I have tried re-installing and deleting the GAL and reinstalling with no improvement.

Had the same issue. I can confirm that the answer suggested in the thread works.
We changed the parameter and I no longer have the sync issues.
