access report won't print image

Question

Monday, October 5, 2015 8:38 PM

I just downloaded the new Office 2016 apps.  Now when I open my reports in access, the pictures I have on the report show up in the report view but when I go to print they disappear.  How do I fix?  Thanks!

Hi,

This issue might happened when image controls in forms and reports in Access 2016 if Picture is Embedded, or when Linked and Zoom. (Happened both mdb and accdb.)

Please try the two workaround:

1) Go to Options > Current Database > Picture Property Storage Format

2) Change the control Size Mode to Stretch (or Clip), and Picture Type to Linked.

I get exactly the same issue and Microsoft wants $499.00 to tell me how they screwed up the world's most widely used database platform!

The only way I could make it work was to open my image in another application like photo viewer then use a clip application like OneNote screen clipping to capture the image on the screenand then paste it directly into the report  in design view. You cann't resize teh image so you have to make it the right size in the original. It's nasty but it works

The KB article addresses graphics not appearing in Print Preview.  My graphics appear in Print Preview but not when I print.  Interestingly, I just discovered since the update that on my Win10 machine the graphics print on an inexpensive inkjet but not on a laser printer.  Uninstalling the laser printer and re-installing a new driver did not fix it, nor did many permutations of picture storage format, size, and mode in Access.

I solved this by selecting: File -> Option -> Current Database (from left pane) -> Picture Property Storage Format -> Preserve Source Image Format (smaller file size) and then OK.

Please make this change for current database which not display images.

After that all worked OK. Try!

Thanks.  After a few frustrating days of trying Access 2016 fixes with different graphic file and storage formats, I happened to try a draft of the document on an inexpensive inkjet printer and the graphics printed OK.  On checking, I found that HP had just released a new driver for my several-year-old laser printer.  That driver fixed my problem.

Thank you George Zhao.  I changed the image to stretch and your tip saved the day.

I solved this by changing the Picture Size Mode from Zoom to Stretch (in Properties) and setting the widh and height in proportion to the original image.

I just right click the report name and export to .pdf and then print the pdf file. Problem solved.

I'm using Windows 10 and the click-to-run version of Access 2016 (reinstalled on 2018-02-28 as suggested; now using v1801; build 9001.2171) and I'm still getting the problem.

The preview in Access shows only some of the images (up to 5 of 6 if I'm lucky).

In the export to PDF I never got beyond 2 pictures per page max. No physical printer is involved here.

Happy to provide the evidence - a picture catalogue (Access report) with 1 JPG picture per record, 6 records per A4 page; 4 pages altogether. In the report I link in the original photos (size up to 6MB) with zoom as picture type.

Using clip/stretch instead of zoom is no solution because clip drops much information and stretch distorts the image.

Resizing all images for the report to fit into the image field is no solution either since this would involve to create hundreds / thousands of mini-copies of the original pictures.

Any ideas how to overcome the issue, please?

Finally!  After trying every other adjustment, hotfix and software update imaginable this one actually did the trick.  Thanks!
