Question

Hi,

I have DHCP server on windows 2008Ent R2, it has already few IPs released to the clients, now i add a new exclusion list which also has those clients IPs, how can I release all these IPs for all clients from DHCP server itself instead to go to each client and renew the IPs...?

Dear,

As far As I know, there is no possibility to force a DHCP release on the clients through the DHCP console on the server.

If you want to change DHCP settings, it’s better to reduce the DHCP lease time to a few minutes on forehand. A few days later, all computers are renewing their IP ever few minutes which makes it possible for you to get the new DHCP settings deployed very quickly and in more ore less controlled way (within a few minutes after the change on the DHCP Server).

Hi,

If you are in urgent need to release IP addresses you can apply batch file with below command in the shutdown or logoff script for the users through Active Directory.

ipconfig /release

Hello,

Sukhwin08 is right. The fastest way is to create a text document and write in it "ipconfig /release & ipconfig /renew" and save it as a .bat file. Go to Group Policy Management Console and create a new GPO. Click Edit. Go to User Settings \ Windows Settings \ Scripts and add the .bat file there. Now check the scope settings and log off and then log on a user from that scope. Keep in mind that you might have to run "gpupdate /force" on that user before logging off and on.

Good Luck!

Hi,

You deactivate the scope and add the exclusion and reactivate the scope again. Do this change in NON business hours.

Next day morning as users logges in it will autometically take new ips.

Otherwise go to DHPC server in Scope goto address lease .

Select all and right click and delete all the lease manually.
