Hi Gigidel,
Welcome to the MSDN forum.
I think Ellen gives you a good sample, if you not familiar with C# code, you can use the convertor on the internet: http://www.developerfusion.com/tools/convert/csharp-to-vb/
Here are other samples:
Get list of computer within a network: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/Vsexpressvb/thread/32031a1b-4b52-4bee-8a0c-9f1ecd8e83bf/
VB.NET List all Computers in Network/Workgroup: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vbgeneral/thread/87499508-63f3-40ec-a82e-14a6da3f3bed/
VB.NET List all Computers in Network/Workgroup: http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/9390/HostName-IP-and-MAC-Address
Hope this helps.

nmaps simplest approach is to just ping every IP in a range, in order, and see what responses you get.
