Domain join AD OU selection during OSD task sequence - OU move fails

Question

Wednesday, March 27, 2019 6:33 PM

Hello,

I'm having a problem where computers aren't being moved to the specified OU during an OSD task sequence. If the computer was already a member of the domain and the object still exists in AD, the computer joins the domain during OSD but the computer is not moved to the OU specified. If the computer object is not in AD (in the case of a new PC or a PC deleted from AD before reimaging), then the OU specified in the OSD TS is honoured.

The OSD task sequence was created using MDT. The name of the OU I want the computer to join into is "OSD Staging". The OU selection list is populated in customsettings.ini and is stated as:

MachineObjectOU=OU=OSD Staging,OU=Win 10,DC=mydomain,DC=com

Currently, if I want to reimage a PC with this task sequence then I need to move the computer in AD prior to running the task sequence.

Any ideas what might affecting this?

Thanks!

Hi,

Join a domain

Select this option to have the destination computer join the specified domain.

Optionally, enter or browse for an organizational unit (OU) in the specified domain for the computer to join. If the computer is currently a member of some other domain or a workgroup, this option causes the computer to reboot. If the computer is already a member of another OU, since Active Directory Domain Services doesn't allow changing the OU via this method, Windows Setup ignores this setting.

Thank you for your reply.

The domain join works in the task sequence, but the OU selected only works if the computer doesn't exist in AD already. Troubleshooting why the computer isn't moved into the target OU automatically is what I would like help with.

When reimaging a PC, I'd prefer to leave the computer object in AD and not have to delete it.

Thanks!
