Question

Hi
We created a new VM in Hyper V 2016 standalone server with a few VHDX for Exchange 2016. We configured the backup using Veeam and it's running successfully, so after the first backup it created .MRT and .RCT files. Later when we tried to export the VM, it got failed, the reason is 2 VHDX (in different paths) having the same name.
Here we are looking for a safe way to rename the VHDX (since the mrt & rct files are there we are afraid to rename it), Hope someone can support us.
Thanks in advance
LMS

Hi,
The .mrt and .rct files are created when the first backup is taken. Those files are to track the changes between the backup operations.
First change the name of the VHDX and then try taking the backup if not successful do a full a backup so that it will create .mrt and .rct afresh.
Regards,
Bala

Hi LMSU,
1. We use Windows Server Backup tool to test in our lab, the backup VHD's name is not the same with original VHD, and after backup, we didn't have issue to export the VM;
2. In your scenario, we may try to rename the backup VHD's name, check if after renaming, the VM can be exported successfully, if yes, we can re-name back the VHD after exporting;
3. As for the .mrt and .crt files, as far as I'm concerned, it's not recommended to delete it manually. If we delete it, I'm afraid we need to do another full backup of the VM.
Best Regards,
Anne
