Dear Exchange Expert,
We are using Windows Server 2008 R2 as the AD Server and Exchange Server 2010 for mail server.
May I know is it possible to change the mail enabled security group to distribution group as I am worry it might be affecting the email as it has been configured as the group email for each of the departments.
Kindly help to provide the proper steps for conversion from security to distribution group and still maintaining the email function.
Thanks
Best Regards,

Hi,
To convert security group to distribution group, just go to ADUC, click on the security group to properties, convert the grouptype to distribution.
But as what Hinte said, note the permissions granted on this group. When you convert it, you will receive this warning message. If you don't grant permission to this group or don't care about the permissions, then click yes to convert it.
Best Regards.

I'm pretty sure it's just a change in Active Directory. Bear in mind, distribution groups cannot have ACL's/Group Policies applied directly through them, that all has to be done via Security Groups, so make sure you don't manage any shares or permissions via that group before you make the change.
