Migration DHCP from windows 2003 to Windows 2008R2 error

Question

Thursday, February 4, 2016 3:02 PM

Good day ,

I m trying to migrate DHCP from windows 2003 (frensh) service Pack2 to windows 2008R2 (english) I did the following :

On windows 2003:

1-I export the database of DHCP from 2003  "netsh dhcp server export C:\dhcp.txt all"

2-I stoped DHCP service "net stop dhcp server"

On windows 2008R2:

1-I import the databse to DHCP server 2008R2 "netsh dhcp server import c:\dhcp.txt all"

so I receive an error message :Error while importing class "Default Routing and Remote Access Class."
This class conflicts with the existing class "Classe de routage et d'accès distant par défaut." An internal error occurred. Can you please help me will be thankful .

Hi zikorai,

Burak gives a link to this error, but it seems all the English version can’t connect right now.

Since your error message looks like writen in French. Here is the French version:

                      https://support.microsoft.com/fr-fr/kb/885687

Or you could change it to anyother possible language.

Hi

I think it's related to with character encoding (different languages),check this article for "Migrating the Windows DHCP role between languages, versions and architectures"

Hi

So my last recommendation is just remove dhcp role on server 2008R2(new one),then add dhcp role again.then try migration.

Hello Zikorai.

Please try to migrate the server by Windows Server Migration Tools once and share the result. Use below link to perform the migration.

Hi

Could you please install Dhcp server event tool(advanced event tool) and check the health, config, etc for new dhcp..

You can download from there,

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/teamdhcp/2009/03/20/dhcp-server-events-tool/

I installed I found two warning in system logs:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: DhcpServer
Event ID: 1056

Description:
The DHCP service has detected that it is running on a domain controller and has no credentials configured for use with Dynamic DNS registrations initiated by the DHCP service. This is not a recommended security configuration. Credentials for Dynamic DNS registrations may be configured using the command line "netsh dhcp server set dnscredentials" or via the DHCP Administrative tool.

Event ID 10020 — DHCPv6 Server Service

So I don't think is big problem ?

For windows2003 Fr I have :

For windows2008R2 EN I have:

Dhcp Server \\server.domaine.com Add Class "Default Routing and Remote Access Class" "User class for remote access clients" 525241532e4d6963726f736f6674 0 b
Dhcp Server \\server.domaine.com Add Class "Default Network Access Protection Class" "Default special user class for Restricted Access clients" 4d5346542051756172616e74696e65 0 b
Dhcp Server \\server.domaine.com Add Class "Default BOOTP Class" "User class for BOOTP Clients" 424f4f54502e4d6963726f736f6674 0 b
Dhcp Server \\server.domaine.com Add Class "Microsoft Windows 2000 Options" "Microsoft vendor-specific options for Windows 2000 and above Clients" 4d53465420352e30 1 b

So if I replace  DHCP 2003 Frensh with DHCP 2008R2 English I have 5 lines in 2003 Frensh like you see and 6 lines in 2008R2 english
