Question

Hi
I have a problem with a lot of clients. They use 2,5 minutes to start. If I give them a static IP they use 30 seconds.
I know this is related to DHCP, but I dont know where the problem is.
There are no usable events in the event log.
Is it true there is NO DHCP client testing tool? I would like to see the DORA process - but the only tool I have found is for Mac.
I know the dhcp trace enable - but MS did not make it easy to view the etl file :-)
Any suggestions? Maybe a tool to test the dhcp process?

Hello,
please post an unedited ipconfig /all from a problem client and your DC/DNS/DHCP server.
Sounds for me a bit more for DNS then DHCP, as DHCP works or not. But long boot times belong often to DNS.

Thanks for your answer.
It seems that it is only every 3rd time it takes long. Maybe more random.

Hi Rick
Thanks for your suggestion.
I think I close this case :-) I was wrong, this is not DHCP related as I knew earlier :-)
I can't reboot the switch. There are some 5000 pc's and 100 locations.
The error is totally random and there are no errors in the eventvwr.
I am now looking at the event 6006 warning, maybe that is the right direction for me to go.
