Question

Hi,
I have tried launching GPU instances on Azure for a few weeks now unsuccessfully using the Microsoft Azure Sponsorship subscription. When I use the following command on powershell:
Get-AzComputeResourceSku | where {$_.Name -icontains "standard_nc6"}
the resulting list of virtual machines is:
virtualMachines Standard_NC6 eastus {3, 1} NotAvailableForSubscription MaxResourceVolumeMB 389120
virtualMachines Standard_NC6 eastus2 1 NotAvailableForSubscription MaxResourceVolumeMB 389120
virtualMachines Standard_NC6 northcentralus NotAvailableForSubscription MaxResourceVolumeMB 389120
virtualMachines Standard_NC6 southcentralus NotAvailableForSubscription MaxResourceVolumeMB 389120
virtualMachines Standard_NC6 northeurope 2 NotAvailableForSubscription MaxResourceVolumeMB 389120
virtualMachines Standard_NC6 westeurope {3, 1} NotAvailableForSubscription MaxResourceVolumeMB 389120
virtualMachines Standard_NC6 australiaeast NotAvailableForSubscription MaxResourceVolumeMB 389120
virtualMachines Standard_NC6 westus2 {1, 3} NotAvailableForSubscription MaxResourceVolumeMB 389120
virtualMachines Standard_NC6 uksouth NotAvailableForSubscription MaxResourceVolumeMB 389120
Is it that my subscription disallows GPU instances?

The initial quota for the N series VMs for all subscriptions is set to 0.

/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/sizes-gpu
In order to use the N series VMs, you need to submit a request to enable these series for your subscription
Request a vCPU quota increase for this family in an available region.

Hi,
When requesting for the quota increase, it shows 48 as the current quota, say for standard NC6. Not 0. Is this how it should be? I have made a request to increase but could only select a number above 48; I chose 54 and it was approved but when I run the same 'Get-AzComputeResourceSku' command as above I still see the 'NotAvailableForSubscription' restriction even for the region I selected for the increase.
EDIT:
I tried launching an NC6 promo in the region and it worked this time. I guess the subscription gets activated on asking for a quota increase. Though the powershell query still shows the machine type as not available for subscription.

Do you happen to have multiple subscriptions?
If so, are you sure you are setting the Subscription correctly? Possibly it is showing you the available resources for a different subscription rather than the one you want.

Yes, I have the Azure sponsorship subscription as well as as the normal Pay as you go.
I'm not sure if there's somewhere I have set up wrong, but all the resources I have are activated under the Azure sponsorship sub. The other sub is idle as far as I know.

Could you try setting the Subscription Context just to test it?
Login-AzAccount
Get-AzSubscription
Select-AzSubscription -Subscription "SUBSCRIPTIONID"
Then run the Get-AzComputeResourceSKU as before

Sorry for the late response.

Thank you.
I have given a response now.

Thanks for that. Seems there is a discrepancy between what you see using PowerShell vs what you see in the portal. As you mentioned, you can still deploy the N series correct? Just the PowerShell is saying not available.

Any update on this issue?

Hi,
In the end, only N PROMO series appeared as available when selecting the VM Size on the portal (and on powershell). I have deployed and worked with them but still wondering why I cannot get to the non-promo N series.
