Question

Dear Support,
I would like to know the way to fix this issue. Please kindly advise.
I have read through the KB as below.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/282001/event-id-1056-is-logged-after-installing-dhcp
In the KB , the solution is to run the DHCP Server service under a specified user account that does not have the ability to overwrite the DNS records. I don't understand why need to do it, could you explain it more?
Thanks
Kidd

Hi Nedic,
It means that I need to create a normal domain user account , then using the above commands to apply. Am I correct ?
May I have know this action will affect the DHCP / DNS function , such as cannot update dns record ?
Thanks
Kidd

Hi Nedic,
In our environment , we have several DCs are running DHCP and DNS server in same server. But I could not find this error. Those servers have not set dnscredentials for DHCP server but they are working fine.
Thanks

Hi John,
May I know the event ID 1056 and DHCP Server installed on Domain Controller running with default DNS dynamic registration credentials are refering to the same issue and the solution is supplying proper credentials to DHCP server can perform updates on behalf of its DHCP clients to DNS server ? We have performed AD Health Check before and the report state out we have those issues.
But in our environment , we have several DCs are running DHCP and DNS server in same server. But I could not find event ID 1056.Those servers have not set dnscredentials for DHCP server but they are working fine.
Thanks
Kidd

Hi Nedim,
Checked and I found the DHCP server was logged on as network service.
If I apply the normal domain user without any dns admin rights as a credentials , how come the normal domain user to can perform updates on behalf of its DHCP clients to DNS server?
Thanks
Kidd

Hi Kidd,
Microsoft recommends to use DNSCredentials for secure updates when you have everything on one server.
