when i am trying to install exchange 2010 on 2008 r2 member server, readiness check is failing at organisation prerequisites asking to modify AD with setup /prepareAD. when i ran prepareAD i get the following error.
Exchange organization name cannot be specified. There already exists an Exchange organization with name 'XXXX'.
i think this is because of my earlier unsuccessful attempts of installing exchange. can someone help me to get pass this. thanks
can i give the other name? or can i delete the organisation from ADSIedit?? what ever it takes, i need to get exchange up n running by this Sunday. cheers

Hi,
You need to remove the Exchange Organization object in the Configuration partition of your Active Directory forest;
The easiest way to accomplish that is firing up the Active Directory Sites and Services console, enable the viewing of the "Services" node (disabled by default), then delete the node called "Microsoft Exchange" (under which you will have another node representing your organization).
You can also do the same thing using ADSIEdit and connecting to the Configuration directory partition.
You should also remove the OUs "Microsoft Exchange Security Groups" and "Microsoft Exchange System Objects" from Active Directory.

You will have to delete the ORG from Adsiedit and than continue with the installation.
Is it the first exchange server you are installing? Gulab | MCITP: Exchange 2010-2007 | Skype: Gulab.Mallah | Blog: www.ExchangeRanger.blogspot.com

thanks for all your posts guys. after so much of hassle i managed to install exchange 2010.
if someone is looking for the fix, deleting otherwellknownobjects from CN=microsoft exchange in CN=services did the trick. use ldp.exe to edit these. cheers
