Visio 2016 Pro extremely slow

Question

Sunday, July 28, 2019 9:36 PM

If I press Ctr+C to copy a simple shape, it literally takes more than 1 minute for Visio to be responsive again sometimes.  If I right-click and select Copy, the action is instant.

Pressing Ctr + S to save a file takes more than 10 seconds, but clicking the Save button is instant.

Could anyone offer a tip on how to fix this?

Hong

Hi Hong,

Does the issue occur with all drawings when using keyboard shortcuts in Visio 2016? Please turn off other unwanted applications other than Visio and create a blank drawing to check for the issue. Will the slow performance still occur?

Does the issue occur with other Office applications and non-Office application? Please update your Visio and hardware drivers to the latest version to have a check.

Please try to repair your Visio from Control Panel.

Just run only Visio in safe mode. To do this, please follow the steps below:

  1. Find the shortcut icon for your Visio 2016 application.
  2. Press and hold the CTRL key and double-click the application shortcut.
  3. Click Yes when a window appears asking if you want to start the application in Safe Mode.

For reference: Open Office apps in safe mode on a Windows PC. Under safe mode, click File > Open to open some existing files to have a check.

You can temporarily disable all application add-ins in Visio according to the article.

You can try changing your 'hardware acceleration' setting both in Visio and Windows. In Visio, Go to File menu > Options command > Advanced option. In the Display section: Toggle the check box for “Disable Hardware Acceleration”.

You can also log in Windows as different users (accounts) to check the issue. In order to avoid conflicts with other applications, such as third-party anti-virus software, you can check if the issue occurs after performing a clean boot in Windows.

Please feel free to post back to tell us if you have any updates or anything unclear.

Best Regards,

Herb

Thank you for trying to help, Herb.

Here is what I did.

  1. Start a new page in the file converted from from an older version (.vsd).
  2. Start a brand new file with Visio 2016.
  3. Restart Vsio.
  4. Reboot the PC (Windows 10 1809), and start Visio.
  5. Repair Visio 2016.
  6. Run Visio in safe mode.
  7. Disable hardware acceleration and restart Visio.

All failed to solved the problem.  The computer uses Windows Defender.  There is no third-party anti-virus software on this PC.

I do not have any other Office 2016 apps. I have upgraded Outlook, Excel, Access, Excel and PowerPoint to Office 2019.   Is it a problem to use Visio 2016 along with Office 2019?

Hello,

I have just tried reinstalling Vsio 2016 Pro twice, but unfortunately the problem remains.
