To understand correctly you are now getting two Event ID 122 warnings after making the group policy change? What do the details say? Make sure to set the setting for "device installation" to "Always install the best driver from Windows Update" using the recommended settings. You can also disable the “Metadata Refresh” scheduled task. It starts the “Device Setup Manager” service which could be causing the message.

Hi,

It’s nothing to do with the Windows Update service at all, it’s the “Device Setup Manager” service.

There is a scheduled task that runs each night in “Microsoft | Windows | Device Setup” called “Metadata Refresh”

When that task runs it causes the “Device Setup Manager” service to start, and that’s what is causing the messages. If you look in the Event Viewer under “Application and Services Logs | Microsoft | Windows | DeviceSetupManager | Admin” and filter on EventID 122 then you can see the entries.

The “policy” that is causing the block is actually the Device Installation Settings.

Hi Hessam,

thanks for your reply.

two event id 122 warnings- meaning two in number.

the details are the same- Access to drivers on Windows Update was blocked by policy.

i have only two options for the settings for device installations , as per the screenshot attached in my original post.

further, "Always install the best driver from Windows Update" using the recommended settings. - option is not avaliable.

i never had these errors on win 10 pro 10240 ?

how do i disable “Metadata Refresh” scheduled task ?

how do i disable “Metadata Refresh” scheduled task ?

To disable this task scheduler, please search for task scheduler to open it.

Under Task Scheduler -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Device setup -> Right click Metadata Refresh task -> Choose disable

The “policy” that is causing the block is actually the Device Installation Settings.

but, perhaps the policy for device installations is set to yes??

furhter, i did not receive any error for 5 days , and today again the error was logged.

can you advise me about configuring th policy in question-if it's not configured as it should be?

or disabling metadata refresh task is the only solution?

regards

Hi,

To use this method, we can narrow down the cause of this issue.

To verify if the GP is set properly, please run command GPresult to export the report for checking:

How to Use the Group Policy Results (GPResult.exe) Command Line Tool
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb456989.aspx

Another thing I support that this event can appear if Windows update install the updated driver for you, please check the event log -> Windows log -> Application to see if there is update installed for your devices.
