Dear sir,

Please correct the error below.

At '11-Jun-20 1:15:24 PM' database copy 'DB01' on this server exceeded the configured maximum database size and service recovery was not attempted. Please increase the value of this registry key on the server hosting the active database copy before attempting to mount this database.       For more details about the failure, consult the Event log on the server for other storage and "MSExchangeIS" events.

Thanks for your reply.

Can I increase it up to 16TB in Exchange Server 2016 Standard Edition ?

Hi Supanirun.R,

This issue occurs because the default database size limit for Exchange Server 2016 Standard Edition is 1,024 GB. We can change the limit value by changing the registry.

Please follow the steps below:

1. Open the Registry Editor.

2. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\Server Name>\Private-<database GUID>.

3. If the Database Size Limit in GB DWORD value exists for the subkey, please change it. If it does not exist, then create one and set.

4. Finally, restart the Exchange Information Store service.

The specific steps you could refer to the second link provided by Troy.

You could modify it by modifying the registry list, but it is not recommended that you do this, because the best practice given by Microsoft's official documents in Exchange 2016 Enterprise Edition is standalone servers is not more than 200G, and in DAG it is not more than 2T.

For more information you could refer to:Best practices for supported storage configurations.

Hi Lucas Liu.

Thank you very much.

I have a brief question to ask.

Can I  increase the Database Size Limit more than 2TB ?

Thursday, June 18, 2020 9:46 AM

Hi Supanirun.R,

According to Microsoft's official documentation on Exchange 2016 Enterprise Edition, we could know that the best practice size of the database for independent servers does not exceed 200G, and the best practice size for DAG members does not exceed 2T.

You could modify it by modifying the registry list, but I still recommend you to modify according to the best practices recommended by the official.

Lucas Liu
