Can't access router config page 192.168.1.1

Question

Wednesday, January 11, 2017 7:42 AM

I am on Win 10 Home 64 bit, I noticed that I cannot reach my wi-fi router config page http://192.168.1.1. Doing so gives me the "can't reach this site" on all browsers - Chrome, FF, IE, Edge. I am able to ping 192.168.1.1 I have tried various suggestions like disabling Firewall, disabling anti-virus, ipconfig /renew, updating network driver etc. I am able to access the config page from my mobile and tablet. I remember I was able to access the page sometime ago, some changes seem to have been made recently but can't seem to figure out. Please help!

Hi!

If you open cmd and typ "ipconfig /all" what is your IP?

To access the page, you need to have an IP in the range of 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.254

If not, set a static IP to your computer and try again. (Mobile and tablet will get their IP from DHCP on the router so it will be in that range by default)

Hmm, that's a bit strange to say the least...

Are you trying to access the page over WiFi or cable?

I am accessing over Wi-fi. I tried to access router config page of a different wi-fi hotspot - connected over USB, with same result. And the puzzling thing is config pages for both the cases are visible on a different mobile/tablet browser. I have a feeling that it is some security setting in win 10, enabled after some update, that is coming in way.

Could you try and connect to the router with a cable?

If this works, then we know where to start looking for trouble!

I know from experience that trying to connect over WiFi when you have a EthernetPort is difficult.

My laptop doesn't have a Ethernet port; I am not sure connecting via the USB port of router would be equivalent..? If it has indeed to do with my wi-fi settings, what is it that I can possibly try to troubleshoot this?

Nah, USB is used if you connect a USB-drive to use as a form of NAS only.

What make and model is the router?

Just to check, have you tried to access it on https:// instead of http:// ?

D-Link DSL-2750U. My machine is: Lenovo Yoga 700 with Win 10 Home 64-bit. I have tried https with same results. I connected a USB wireless adapter just to see if that could give a different result but no luck.

The only thing I can think of at the moment is to download a bootable version of Linux and try from this OS.

You can download it, add it to a USB and boot the computer from this. (It will not make any changes to your current OS unless you tell it to)

If it works from here, then it's related to the client/Windows. If not, then it must be something with the D-Link.

You can try Ubuntu, it works and looks like Windows: https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/try-ubuntu-before-you-install

I had this same thing happen once with a D-Link router.  It was because it was an older router and was simply incompatible with the newer versions of IE.  I went to the D-Link forums and verified my router would only work with IE versions up to IE9.  I was able to fix the problem by going into the browser settings gear in IE11 and putting that address (192.168.1.1) in Compatability view.  I don't know how old your router is, but it is worth a try.

This seems like a doable thing but I believe I know the answer as I am able to see the config page on my tablet (Kindle Fire)

Compatibility view on IE11 gives same result.

Hi arun.gupta,

Your default gateway is 255.255.255.## (likely to be auto config private ip addressing not configured by DHCP on your router).

We could disconnect the router from the modem and switch off power to the router and after a couple of minutes restore power again.

Also if we could upgrade the router firmware to check.

Meanwhile opening internet explorer Options > Advanced tab > click reset and follow instructions, before doing that: right click the network connection icon on the taskbar and click "Diagnose and repair". Also make sure that you do not have any infections and clear all cookies and temporary internet files.

Hope it will be helpful to you
