Hi KimLombard,

Which format of files did you use in Excel? .xls or .xlsx?

First please check the file format you're using.

Then the PowerPivot data file is corrupt. This might occurs because of a lot of reasons, for example, power failure, or the workbook isn't closed correctly, etc.

Please try to update or refresh the data source in Excel.

You can also try toclear the existing temp file, which by default is located at:

C:\Users\username>\AppData\Local\Temp

Delete the folder named Vertipaq (or the name started with Vertipaq_)

If your issue still exists, did you mind provide the whole error message about your problem?

Hello Emi.  I am using an xlsx format.  I am having lost of problems with Pivots since upgrading to 2016.  Seems to crash a lot and close and then attempt to reopen the file.  I did do an update and that seemed to sort out the problem above.  Seems that the 2016 version is more unstable than 2013.  Often when Excel closes unexpectatly, the pivots get corrupted.  So then I have to rebuild from scratch which is time consuming and irritating.  But hopefully MS will sort out and it will become more stable. Seems from comments and threads that I am not the only one experiencing these instability issues.
