VS2015 refuses to run with 'Cannot run when setup is in progress' message.

I installed VS2015 successfully and was able to edit files and compile my web-site. However as VS2015 discovered 136 errors that do not exist with VS2010, I decided to install VS2012 to see if it was any better. After installing VS2012 (3 hours +) and compiling my web-site, with out errors I thought to return to VS2015 to double check what was happening. VS2015 refuses to run with 'Cannot run when setup is in progress' message.

What do I have to do to get VS2015 working again, I do not want to re-install it as it took over 4 hours last time.

Hello KenBirch,

Have you tried to restart your OS? Please also try repair Visual Studio 2015 from control panel.

'Cannot run when setup is in progress' means setup cannot continue. It always means your setup cannot continue because another setup is in progress. I don't know why a installed Visual Studio 2015 report this for you, maybe it is corrupt and need to repair itself.

So when you restart at least you can kill that in progress setup process.

Hello Barry, thank you for your suggestion. I restarted my machine twice, and now it works correctly. There must have been some outstanding updates that got installed during the restarts, hence twice. Regards Ken.
