DHCP and multiple scopes

Guys,

When creating multiple scopes in a DHCP server(with failover to a second dhcp server), how to i get the right ip-address to the right devices? Lets say i crate a scope for finance, how do i get to devices in the finance ou to get the addresses from the finance scope only?

Hi,

I would suggest you create DHCP policy with user class.

You can create different user classes and assign devices to different classes.

Then you can create DHCP policy to assign different scopes for different classes.

Or with DHCP Relay if you are using multiple subnets.

Many thanks for your reply. I am not sure how dhcp relay will give specific computers(from one department) a specific lease range,

As said, if you are using multiple network subnets then it's possible with DHCP relay, but if all computers are in the same subnet then DHCP policy is the right way to go.

i have been able to test it today, but the tutorials aint valid anymore, they are only valid for 2008 or lower. It seems one needs to use the policy in DHCP(since 2012), but i cant see any info about how to do that. Any help would be apreciated.

I tried the macadddres part in the policy, added the last four chars of a networkcard lke this: 65er* but that doesnt seem to work. That macaddress doesnt get an ip.

many thanks for the info. After readin(haven't tested it yet) it seams that one cannot deploy different scopes to different subnets. I think i need another dhcp to provide addresses to the other subnet.

I don't quite understand what you mean.

As shown in the picture, you just need to divide devices into different user classes. Just like I said at the beginning.
