"We couldn't open that location. It might not exist or you might not have permission to open it." error when opening Notebook

Question

I've had several OneNote notebooks for years.

This morning, only the ones hosted on OneDrive failed synchronization.

Following other support tips for the initial error 0x80072EFD I re-started my Surface Pro, switched connections, and closed the notebook.

None of these had any effect, and I cannot sync the notebooks on other machines.

I also tried removing certificates as described here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/29176a20-2e5c-421a-b314-cb8e5c7a150c/onenote-doesnt-recognize-internet-connection-unable-to-sync?forum=officeitpro

I can still open and edit the documents via OneDrive's web access, but I get the error in the title of this post if I try to open with OneNote.

How can I restore access to my notebooks and get them to sync?

Hi,

Please try to clear the OneNote cache and test again. To do this, please follow:

1. Navigate to C:\Users\username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneNote\15.0

2. Find the file named "OneNoteOfflineCache.onecache" and rename it to OneNoteOfflineCache.onecache.old.

3. Restart your OneNote and test again.

Please let me know the result.

Steve,

I am having the same issue on my OneNote books stored on OneDrive in ODFB (OneDrive For Business).  I don't have this issue with my OneNote notebooks stored on OneDrive (Personal).  The cache clearing did not help.  Any other ideas?

The same here - we have few Notebooks on SharePoint - no problem. Colleague shared with me section of one of his Notebooks, stored on OneDrive for Business, and I get the error.

Clearing the cache did not help.

Hi,

I´ve had the same problem just recently, I did like described above and did the following steps after:

1. Closed the OneNote application on my windows 7 machine via Task Manager.

2. Start it again and sign in with the same account. Don´t create anything else. Just login in.

3. Go to the OneNote online version and select "Open in OneNote"

4. You should be good and everything starts.

Fehed

Just to add some further information, i had the same issue with non of the above fixing. However the following did fix;

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4025962/can-t-sign-in-after-update-to-office-2016-build-16-0-7967-on-windows-1

"DisableADALatopWAMOverride"=dword:00000001
