Question

I have users with small tablets and want to put outlook on the SD Drive.  I did it before and can't figure out what to do. Have two user types. Some with Office 365 and some with Office 2016

Hi

Normally, we have two ways to move the OST location:

1. create a ForceOSTPath registry entry and then create a new profile.

(Note The value of the ForceOSTPath registry entry only works for a new Outlook profile.)

To do this, please refer to the details under Workaround section in this link.

2. create Symbolic Links

This is a simple and quickest way to move the ost file. With a Symbolic Link, you’d be creating a “pseudo file” which is only a pointer to the actual file. Here are the steps:

1. Close Outlook.

2. Move the ost-file from its original location to its new location.

The default location is; C:\Users\username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

3. Open the Start Menu and immediately type: cmd

4. Right click on the cmd.exe file and choose “Run as administrator”

5. Type the following command (According to your own location and user name)

mklink "C:\Users\username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\outlookcom.ost" "D:\Documents\Outlook Files\outlookcom.ost"

Once you’ve created the symbolic link, the file icon will look like a shortcut in Explorer.

The file size will report as 0KB but the file it is pointing to of course still holds its size. The link to that file simply doesn’t take up any disk space.

Here is a link for your reference.

Hope this is helpful to you.
