Cached credentials are not updated when you change your password in Windows

Question

We are having issues when our users change passwords in Windows 10, the cached credentials are not updated.

We have a local AD structure with Office365 included (mail, OneDrive and Office apps).

Our problems are much like KB2845626 - but according this link (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2845626) this KB only targets Windows 7, 8, Server 2008 and Server 2012 and not Windows 10.

Have any of you heard of a solution for Windows 10?

Hi ,

The cmdkey.exe is a Credential Manager Command Line Utility.
We can use it to delete stored user names and passwords or credentials.

For example,
To display the list of stored user names and credentials.
cmdkey /list
Then Deletes a user name and password from the list:
For example:
cmdkey /delete:Server01

Here is a link about Cmdkey for your reference.

Hi Morten,

Did the issue occur with all the machines or the specific one?
Did you restart or logout then login the machine after changing the password?
Please check the credentials on the "Credential Manager",  are they  removed?
Were there any error message recorded in Event View when this issue occurred?

“We have a local AD structure with Office365 included (mail, OneDrive and Office apps).”
Is the network an Azure AD?
Please try to re-add one machine to the domain to have a troubleshoot.

If it is an Azure AD, please check the following link to troubleshoot the password synchronization issue in Azure AD.

We are relatively new in Office365, but we are seeing a incrementing number of users with this problem.

A restart of a computer doesn't change anything.

In credential manager we are seeing duplicate entries. The old one and the new and updated one.
If we delete the old entry the issue is resolved.

I didn't find any error messages in event log - but I will keep looking.

No the Network is not an Azure AD - we have an onpremise AD synced to Azure via ADFS.

Hi, we have also started to experience this very issue. If uses changes their domain password they are prompted to enter their new password when they open Outlook, but the new password is not accepted and the login box is represented.

The user can manually delete all the ADAL items in the credential manager and then they are able to open Outlook, enter their new password when prompted and the new password is accepted.

We are desperately looking for a better solution to update stored credentials rather than having users accessing Credential Manager to remove entries each time they change their domain password

Thanks

I hope this isn't considered resolved. Using a utility on each workstation each time this happens is not an acceptable solution.

I am also experiencing this issue with having to enter in credentials in Outlook and multiple entries in credential manager. We also have an on-premise AD synced to Azure via ADFS.

I just upgraded our old depreciated DirSync utility with Azure AD Connect (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=47594) but haven't been able to have enough time to test to see is this resolves our issue yet.

I'm having the exact same issue. This question is marked as 'answered', LMAO.

Basically the answer is perform manual task on each PC, for a feature that should be working 100% autonomously.

This is not a solution but a work around.
