How do I change the default font in Access 2013?

Question

Hello.

I recently got Access 2013 installed.

Unfortunately, Microsoft's choice of using Calibri as a default font in Access 2013 is bloody horrible. I checked the options settings in Access, but cannot find any option to let me specify a default universal font for all tables. For example, instead of using Calibri, why can't I change that to Segoe UI? (Not sure why Microsoft didn't use Segoe UI in the first place, because the font is much easier and more pleasant to look at). All I can do is change the size, but this doesn't help. Is there a secret place or command option to force Access 2013 to switch over to Segoe UI or some other font?

Hi,

As far as I know, Access has no build-in option to change the default font. If we need to set the Segoe UI font for tables, queries, forms and reports as default. We might try the following workarounds, please see the following threads:

I thank George for helping me solve my issue. Below is the solution I used to change the default font in Access 2013 from Calibri to Segoe UI. This solution was originally posted at http://superuser.com/questions/416860/how-can-i-change-the-default-datasheet-font-in-ms-access-2010. I modified the steps for more clarity.

Step 1. If Access is running, close it.

Step 2. Open RegEdit and navigate to this location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Access\Settings

Select the "Settings" folder and then go to step 3.

Step 3. Add a new string value named "Default Font Name" (without the quotes). To do this, click Edit, New, String Value from the RegEdit menu.

Step 4. Double click the string "Default Font Name" and enter the value of "Segoe UI" (no quotes) in the Value Data box. Press OK. Note: to use a different font, enter any other font name instead of Segoe UI.  No re-boot is needed.

...

Open any existing Access database file, and then open any table.  The font will be changed in the datasheet view.  Note: If you already have Access running, simply close and re-open Access.

The above steps only change the default font, but not the font size. To change the default font size, go to Options in Access, and click on Datasheet in the sidebar. Under the section "Default Font", choose the size from the Size drop-down list. Press OK.

Open any table in Access, and you should now see the font size you specified.

George, thank you very much for the links! The first link was the answer. I just tried the solution and Access 2013 now used Segoe UI as the default font for table datasheet windows.
