Mouse Pointer Moves to Center of Screen (after a few seconds, continuously)

Question

Thursday, July 7, 2016 11:50 PM

Computer is a desktop Dell XPS, Windows 10 Pro, with discrete video card.

Problem: the mouse after a few seconds jumps to the center of the screen.

Steps Taken:

  1. Updated, Uninstalled, Reinstalled Mouse Driver - no effect
  2. Updated, Uninstalled, Reinstalled Video Driver - no effect

I don't know what I've done each time to resolve the problem but this is the 3rd time this problem has returned and this computer is used for presentations to two projectors.  This problem has only appeared in the last 1-2 months.

Anybody have suggestions?

Thanks,

Darryl

The tablet services were on manual.  So not the problem.

here is what the problem seems to be:   there is a monitor connected to the computer via DVI and the HDMI goes to a projector (actually a 4x4 HDMI splitter device).   When the projectors are off - the mouse will center after a few seconds.   When the projectors are on - there is no problem - the mouse stays where you left it.

This has just become a problem in the past few weeks either with a Windows 10 update, or a video card update, or something along these lines.  It was running great before - that is you did not need the projects on to use the desktop monitor.

Suggestions are welcome for further investigation.   Otherwise I will mark this as a answer.

Thanks everybody that offered help!!

Keyboard, touchpad, or mouse not working correctly

Check the issue in Safe mode or Clean Boot state. What happens if you create another user account to test the problem?

Windows 10 has a Safe mode?  Will look up the "clean boot state".

Hi ACEEng,

Windows 10 has Safe Mode. We could boot into the Safe Mode by follow the steps in the link below.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode

Then as above suggestions, we could boot in Clean Boot to avoid the effects of third party software.

Also if your system has a system restore point and this problem is occur recently, we could try system restore.

Hope it will be helpful to you
