Question
Monday, August 20, 2018 7:39 PM
I have created a modern list and need to hide the details pane so that users cannot see any details for a record in the list. Is this possible?
I have created a calculated column that removes the year from from a date/time field.
If you open the details pane it display the date/time fields with the year instead of the calculated columns without.
If not is there a way to prevent certain columns from displaying in the details pane?

Hi,
As far as I know, there is no way that you can hide the details pane in modern list.
As a workaround, you can customize the detail pane to prevent certain columns from displaying in the details pane by using PowerApps.
For detailed steps, please refer to the article below.

Thanks for the link.
I selected Customize Form under Power Apps and then selected only the fields I wanted to display.
Then published the app.
When I go back to the list I still see all of the fields in the details pane.
Is there something I am missing?

Hi,
Have you turn the “Visible” off for the columns you don’t want to display?
In addition, go to List Settings > Form Settings to make sure that the second option is chosen.

Yes, I have turned “Visible” off for the columns I don’t want to display.
Under List Settings > Form Settings it is set to use a custom Form created in Power Apps.
If add a new record to the list the form that pops up shows the correct fields I selected in Power Apps.
The problem is when I select a record in the list the details pane still shows all of the fields from the list.
That is the one I want to modify.

Hi,
How many forms are there for your current list in PowerApps?
Normally, after the first time using PowerApps, the default generated form will use the same form for creating, showing or editing an item.
Please check here if you have multiple screens.
And then Click on SharePointIntegration, check the left panel, to see if the ViewForm is using the right one that you edit.
Please check this article for designing NewForm, EditForm, ViewForm separately: https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/separate-custom-forms/

When I first created the Power App by going to PowerApps > Customize Forms there was only 1 form. I duplicated the form to make 3 as explained in the link you provided.
Under SharePoint Integration I duplicated what was in the article and removed some of the fields from ShowItemForm.
When I go to create a new record in the list the new form looks like it does in PowerForms.
When I open the SharePoint list and click on a record and then open the details pane at the top right I still see all of the fields from the list instead of only the ones in the ShowItemForm in PowerApps.

Hi,
Please check on each form's DefaultMode.
Click on "CreateItemForm" > fx Advanced, make sure it's FormMode.New
For "ShowItemForm", it should be FormMode.View
For "EditItemForm", it should be FormMode.Edit

Yes, each form's DefaultMode is already set that way.
"CreateItemForm" > fx Advanced = FormMode.New
"ShowItemForm" > fx Advanced = FormMode.View
"EditItemForm" > fx Advanced = FormMode.Edit

Hi,
I have tested the above methods in my environment and they all worked fine. Here are my outcomes.
- Only one column shown in Show form
2. 4 columns shown in Edit form
3. Three columns shown in New form
Based on the settings you provided, you seems to follow the steps in the tutorial with no mistakes. Can you please check your steps again to make sure nothing is wrong?
If you still have no changes on your Show form, I suggest you go to the forum for PowerApps for better advice.

Please see the attachment as I am not sure this is the same as what you are referring to.
On the right side if you click on the details button circled in red. It opens up the properties from the list below it.
These are the properties I want to remove. PowerApps seems to have no affect on these.

Hi,
So sorry for misunderstanding your intention. Currently, the details pane cannot be disabled or edited.
As a workaround, you may change this list to classic experience in List Settings > Advanced Settings > List Experience.

Sarah Yang
