Failed to evaluate Installable rule error in windowsupdate.log

Question

One of our Windows 2008 Core servers is showing some odd messages in it's windowsupdate.log. We're running SCCM 2007 for our Software Updates. The errors show as:

Agent WARNING: Failed to evaluate Installable rule, updateId = {9A1610FF-1B8F-49CD-BFF1-DDC5CEF8C117}.1, hr = 80041013

We've got many of these, by many updateIDs. We've turned off all firewalls on the server thinking it might be causing some communication problem but the errors still appear. Anyone seen this before?Orange County District Attorney

Which update(s) are you trying to install on this Server Core system? (If I get some time, I'll look up the GUID, but it'll be easier for you to check the WindowsUpdate.log or WSUS (SCCM) console and identify which updates have been approved/downloaded/notInstalled.

Be aware that currently there is no way for an update to make the distinction between a Server Core and a Full Install system. As a result, *many* update that are appropriate for a GUI system, but not appropriate for Server Core (because of the lack of .NET Framework, et. al.), will still detect and may attempt to install. They may also encounter the very issue you're seeing -- the WUA cannot evaluate an "Installable rule" because the file or registry key to be checked, doesn't exist.Lawrence Garvin, M.S., MCITP:EA, MCDBA

Agent WARNING: Failed to evaluate Installed rule, updateId = {22127F0B-CA80-45BF-B482-665FD2C07822}.1, hr = 80041033

Clarification.. this is NOT an ERROR... this is a WARNING, and it's a Normal Indication. IGNORE IT.

Your assumption is correct: Effectively it's telling you that it cannot evaluate this update because the update is Not Applicable to the platform (i.e. Server Core).

Thanks for the post Lawrence. (BTW, I just got the notification today on your response) My SCCM system shows my 2008 Core server as being fully updated with no applicable patches needed however I still get these in my windowsupdate.log. Today I just checked and I've got a different one

Agent WARNING: Failed to evaluate Installed rule, updateId = {22127F0B-CA80-45BF-B482-665FD2C07822}.1, hr = 80041033

I'm sure it's as you say, SCCM / WSUS is trying to evaluate an update that is not applicable to the Core system and so it's squawking with this error.
