Install Visual Studio 2005 on Windows 10

Question

Friday, February 5, 2016 10:26 AM

I have a Project which I can't update to a recent Visual Studio version due to external Com Libs and a 3rd pary component... Anyway. I've got a new machine and want to install Visual Studio 2005 on it, but it even doesn't give me an error.

Anybody got VS 2005 working on W10?

Hi Chris Pogea,

Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.

Currently, the VS 2005 is beyond our support lifecycle. There could be problems if you install VS 2005 on OS win 10.

From my point of view, i recommend you install more advanced VS edition. because it will be better exprience for you to develop programs. you could choose not to install the 3rd party components or extensions.

Here VS 2015 iso Microsoft official download link:

oh wow, you guys just don't seem to understand that our clients have HUGE projects that we support, with ssrs, wwf etc that Cannot be directly upgraded to any new framework without Tens of Thousands of hours of conversion and testing work in order to use VS[newer/newest version] for development.  They simply can't allocate funding for that kind of effort. It's bad enough that we are stuck using VS2005, but we also have to keep using Windows 7. They are pressuring us to upgrade to Win10 (cause MS says so), but the clients don't seem to understand either, that we are running out of support options. I'm basically complaining about MS saying upgrade or else, if you are supporting old or outdated technologies that you failed to upgrade with every MS release, well-too bad....

I have the same problem.  We are pushed to use Windows 10, I should get new computer.  I developed big project in VB2005 and not sure if it will work.  Also before I get new computer my old one will be upgraded to Windows 10.  Not sure if y projects in vb6, vb2005 and Crystal Reports will work.

I worked on this project 12 years and there are more than 100 users.  It is impossible to rewrite it.  What Microsoft is thinking to make so much trouble for our work?
