Hi Emil,

Recent versions of Microsoft Office for Windows and Mac store the customized data in two places, depending on whether the AutoCorrect entry is formatted or unformatted within Word. Unformatted entries are stored in AutoCorrect List files in a folder on the computer, and entries that have formatting are stored in the program’s Normal template(Normal.dotm), which contains your chosen default styles and other preferences for the Word documents you create.

As you have seen, .ACL files are located in C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Office. The MSO numbers in each file name indicate the language/locale; e.g. MSO0127.acl = Math, MSO1033.acl = English (US), MSO2057.acl = English, (UK), MSO3081.acl = English (Australia).  Look at the date last modified — the ACL files with the most recent dates are likely the ones your installation of Office uses.

The Normal template (Normal.dotm) is located in C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates.

Once you locate the Autocorrect List files on the old computer, copy them onto a USB drive or server and then copy them to the same location within Word on the new computer. Keep in mind that this will wipe out any AutoCorrect entries you have previously created on the new computer.

After transferring the unformatted entries to the new computer, move the formatted entries. To do this, transfer a copy of the Normal.dotm file to the corresponding folder on the other computer.

Hope it helps!

Best Regards,

Herb

Hi Emil Dilov,

I'm not sure if I can understand what you mean.
If your issue is about Word 2016,
[File] > [Options] > [Proofing] -- AutoCorrect options

Hi Emil,

Please read the article contributed by Dave Rado(MVP): How can I import and export all my AutoCorrect entries, so they can be transferred to another machine? In addition, please go to the website https://jay-freedman.info/ to download AutoCorrect2007.zip.

AutoCorrect template is a Word template that will help you to backup and restore your AutoCorrect entries.

The template’s macro runs automatically when you open it.

If you select the “Backup” option the macro will export all your AutoCorrect entries to a Word document. It will allow you to choose the file name and path but defaults to your default document directory, with the file name “AutoCorrect Backup Document”.

To import your AutoCorrect entries into Word from your backup document select the “Restore” option. Browse for the Word file that you saved before, and enjoy!

Hope the information helps. Anything unclear, feel free to post back to let us know.

Best Regards,

Herb
