setup cannot find Proofing.en-us\Proof.en\Proof.cab

Question

Hi,

I've run into this problem. Trying to install Office Professional Plus 2013 on my upgraded Win 8 Pro. I uninstalled Office 2010 before trying to install Office Professional Plus 2013. However, the setup bombs out when it gives the following:

Setup cannot find Proofing.en-us\Proof.en\Proof.cab. Browse to a valid installation source and then click OK.

I did a search for this file and initially did not find it. Then from the ISO image copied it manually to where I had expanded my office setup files. Still shows up as "Invalid Location".

Note, I downloaded the software from my technet subscription so I should not be having a beta copy. Both the proof.cab and proof.msi files are there along with some other files. I'm totally stuck. Any help will be appreciated.

Vikas.

I had this happen too when I tried to install the "<label class="description" id="description1">Office Professional Plus 2013 (x64) - DVD (English)</label>" version.  I then tried the "<label class="description" id="description0">Office Professional Plus 2013 (x86 and x64) - DVD (English)" version instead and it worked fine.</label>

For future searchers - just had this happen on 2010 and found this which worked:

I am having this same problem. I have re-downloaded the ISO from the MSDN subscriber downloads site and it still fails with this error. G-damn.

I run into the same issue and to resolve and complete the installation, I ran the Setup.exe from x64 folder as my PC was 64bit.

Not sure if anyone else still runs into this issue, but I was able to fix it by going into the registry and removing the HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Office key.  Once I removed that out of there Office installed without any issues.

I find a solution to this problem on the office 2013  :)
please copy office installation folder in your disk
and run proofing.en-us\proof.es\proof.msi
its ok for me

Where is the x64 folder of which you speak?  My computer and install disk do not have such...

For those who may still be struggling with this. I was able to get around this on Windows 10 x64 with the following steps:

Download Office 2010 32bit Pro Plus

Mount and extract contents to a folder on hdd

download MS Office 2010 FR proofing tools. Run executable and while it's waiting for a response, search hdd for exact location of proof.fr (mine was "C:\Users\username%\AppData\Local\Temp\OWP5B04.tmp\Proofing.fr-fr\Proof.fr" - but yours could be different (Run C:\dir proof*.* /s from an elevated cmd prompt)

Copy and past those files from the temp folder to the newly created folder containing source files on your HDD.

Complete installation. At least that worked for me..

I have tried those steps and no, they don't always work.

I cannot stress this enough, that none of these ideas WORKS!

Let me also point out just how frustrating this problem is.  Due to another couple of errors, I decided to reinstall Windows 10.  I used a different (though used) drive and formatted it from the start. I installed windows 10 - NOTHING ELSE.  Immediately, I put in my Office 2010 CD and got that error.  I copied the disk to the HDD and ran the setup.exe.  Same Error.

I've tried all the work-arounds mentioned above as well as those found on the internet, and get the same error.

NOTHING ELSE HAS BEEN INSTALLED, so there should be no "MS Office" remnants in the registry.  Even when I go in and try to customize the Proofing tools to NOT INCLUDE French or Spanish, I get the error that it cannot find the Proofing.es\Proof.es\ Proof.Cab. I can find it.  Why can't the program find it? AND why can't someone find out why this is happening this way?? Or better yet, why is there no help anywhere?
