Printer driver - Event Id 370

Question

Friday, July 14, 2017 11:13 AM

I have several errors like this, for different printers. Reinstalling the printer driver or removing and adding back the printer DID NOT solve the problem. Any idea how to fix this?

The print spooler failed to regenerate the printer driver information for driver [printer driver] for environment Windows x64. Win32 system error code 578 (0x242). This can occur after an operating system upgrade or because of data loss on the hard drive.

Open start and search for troubleshooter and then open it and run printer troubleshooter.

Search does not work in my system. Windows 10 is really a weak operating system. The Start menu and search icon sometimes work, sometime does not, with no apparent reason. And please, do not tell me to restart the system. It does NOT fix the problem: simply makes thing works up to the next problem. Restarting Search or Windows Explorer does not fix the problem. I do NOT use Cortana.

Try printer management (right click start run printmanagement.msc) and expand Printer then the computer name then Driver. On that right click a driver and Remove drive package. Once removed the failing packages reboot to clean them completely. Once rebooted see if Windows detects the drivers, if not make sure you have the latest drivers (check for newer ones online) and try those.

I tried troubleshooting printer but it does not help at all. For example, one of the printers that give error is Microsoft XPS Document Writer , which is not even listed by the troubleshooter. In any case it is quite evident that the problem is not related to the printers but to some bug in the system. The troubleshooter does not find any problem and any printer attached to system, of course. This is a software problem handling printer drivers, not an hardware problem!

I have the latest driver. Reinstalling software again and again is not a solution when there is a bug in operating system software!

Please post the printers and drivers versions you are having these problems with.
