Used Japanese locale once, yen symbol persists in filepath

Question

Hi everyone, looking for some help fixing a bug I'm having after using Japanese locale a while back.

Since i have stopped using it and removed it from the language list etc, I have noticed that my file paths have all had their backslashes replaced with the yen symbol; e.g C:¥Users¥User¥Desktop.

It seems to be purely visual as when I copy and paste here it automatically changes to backslashes, however I still would like to fix it. Looking around I came across this but it's unclear what I should change in this registry directory, so I don't want to change any values until I'm certain.

In the TrueTypeFont folder I have;

0 REG_SZ Lucida Console

00 REG_SZ Consolas

932 REG_SZ *MS ゴシック

936 REG_SZ *新宋体

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Hi Valius Forta,

Follow the step below and see if it would help:

Try to change the system locale under:

Control Panel\Clock, Language, and Region\Region,

On the Administrative tab, click on the change system locale. And choose English(United States ) from the list, click OK.

See if this would help.

Regards

Hi Valius,

For the registry changes, we may first backup it, then change it to the value suggested to see if ti would fix the issue.

By the way, regarding the file path delimiter stuff, please check:

I’d rather call it the path separator

Hi Michael, thanks for the response!

The problem I have is that i don't actually know what value is being suggested as my registry already has lucida console's value as 0. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi Valius,

Thanks for the update.

The below is the registry settings from my side, which have English and Chinese language installed:

Besides, we may also consider to backup the registry settings first, after that, export the registry from a working system of the same Windows Operating system version, and then import it to your system.

Hey Michael,

I backed up my registry and tried deleting both the chinese and japanese registry keys in that folder and have restarted yet the issue still persists.

Do you think it could perhaps be somewhere else? Perhaps font substitutes? There are a few entries there, might they have something to do with it?

Hi Valius,

Well, I can't say it that would work.

Generally uninstall the language pack should work to remove the related functions.

I installed the Japanese language pack but didn't get the issue you mentioned, as I don't understand Japanese, so that might be a little diffcult for me to reproduce this.

I will try to research and see if could find out any helpful information.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Now that's just embarrassing, I could have sworn that was one of the first things I checked while I was trying to put things back the way they were; perhaps I changed it and clicked cancel when it asked me to restart haha.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your troubles; it's fixed now after changing the locale back correctly. :)
