Question

I was setting up my pc after upgrading to Windows 10 and needed to connect to a network drive for my work. I did it originally using the "Add a network location" wizard and it worked, I could see the files on the drive, and so I pinned the network location to my Quick Access. However, I then discovered it wouldn't let me open the files on the drive using the appropriate programs. So I reconnected to the drive using the "Map network drive" tool instead, which works properly and lets me open the files.
The problem is that now I can't unpin the original network location shortcut from the quick access. If I right click on the quick access shortcut I only get a drop down menu with a single option, "Expand", but it's grayed out and I can't click on it. There's no "Unpin from Quick Access" option like every other pinned folder. It seems to be impossible to unpin this from the quick access.

Hi mjw7994,
Is it available to remove other options from the "Quick Access"?
First of all, please run "sfc /scannow" or "dism/online/cleanup-image/restorehealth" to check the health of system files.
We could try to pin the shortcut to quick access again and then unpin it to have a check.
If it is possible, please create a new account to check whether this issue only occurred with the specific acccount.
Best regards

I found the solution in the following link. I tried the second but easy one and it worked.
Just select two folders using ctrl including the network location as one and any other folder which can be unpinned. Then unpin the folder. Viola ! that buggy network location pin will also go.

I could not remove an old NAS folder in Quick Access. After trying nearly every solution I found an even easier way:
- Collapse Quick Access
- Right click and select "clear explorer history"
- Unpin offending item

The "highlight 2 items, right-clik, choose "Unpin..." Did not work for me. I had a folder that was a NAS location on my home, private network. However, BidUser's answer on 9 Aug 15 did.
1. Close all Windows Explorer windows.
2. Open an administrative command prompt (not sure if it was necessary to be administrative).
3. cd C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations (where "username" is your actual username)
4. Rename (or Delete) all of the files.
5. Open Windows Explorer, and you should be back to your "normal" default Quick Access list without ftp entries.

Right click on quick access and select options. Under General tab click on clear to clear file explorer history.

Jacqueline, I had the same problem with an old NAS network location. This solution solved my problem!
Thanks so much for posting, and I am sure glad I remember a little from my ancient DOS class I took back 18 years ago! Commands like: dir, and cls, helped a ton,... and the one that helped the most: del *-ms
Kudos to you my friend!
