Power Options Greyed Out on Server

Question

Friday, November 22, 2013 6:05 PM

We are configuring a new Windows Essentials 2012 server. Normally with a server, we select the high-performance power option in Control Panel (to keep the server active at all times). However, with 2012 Essentials, the server appears to be locked on the Balanced option. The High Performance choice is greyed out. There does not seem to be a way to change the setting to High Performance, and edit that selection to fit our preferences.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi John,

Can we create a power plan? For I don’t have a Windows Server 2012 Essentials environment, but I guess the Power Option won’t be much different from other versions like Windows server 2012. If we can create a new power plan, we can choose High Performance in the new plan.

Besides, I just want to share that in my Windows 8 environment, to change the power option, I must click Change settings that are currently unavailable above Preferred plans, before this, other options are grayed out.

In addition, I want to confirm whether we have configured some policy to affect the setting.

Best regards,

Frank Shen

Thanks Frank.  I tried your suggestions and was able to create a new power plan based on the High Performance settings.  Everything is now set the way we want it.
