Hi all

per the error in the title, We are seeing repeated persistent examples of this when a user tries to save their changes to an excel file being edited in the desktop application in a document library.

The issue is not specific to any document.

The issue occurs frequently and for different people.

There is no-one else editing the document.

Clearing the Upload Centre cache is not helping.

Excel 2013 and Excel 2016

SharePoint 2013 On Premise.

Help appreciated.

Thanks

Andrew

Hi Andrew- this is a known issue and, as far as I know, MS hasn't provided a solution. It has to do with sync issues. There are several things related to this and it could be any one or more of them causing the issue. Steps I would take:

1. Disable all 3rd party add ons in your browser, and of course make sure you're using IE.

2. Clear both the browser and local cache.

3. While in Excel, go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Protected View and uncheck "Enable Protected View for files originating from the Internet" and "Enable Protected View for files located in potentially unsafe locations."

4. If your file is large (>= 50 megs), save every 10 minutes. Do NOT keep your file open for over a half hour. If you need to continue working, save the file, close out of it and re-open.

5. Be aware that some Excel functionality isn't supported by SP and may cause saving issues.

Thanks Cameron. I will try your suggestions.

Anyone from MS?? Is there an official solution?

Oh no, please don't go there, unless you want to go 'round 'n 'round with MS. :)

If you really want to see what you're getting yourself into, see the following link that's been beaten to death:

Good luck to you, you'll need it.

LOL. I take your point. I was obviously being naive expecting a solution instead of the what is your o/s, antivirus etc.

Thanks again.

Andrew.

Surely someone in the US could start a class action against MS for this (seems to be easier in the US that in the UK, see VW emissions cheating, for example).  We have been paying for a service that MS are failing to provide.  I did not read anywhere in the T&C that O365 + OD would not work and that I should consider spending more money on an alternative to OD or that I would spend time creating a new version of a file and then having to tidy up afterwards.  I don't think that a refund equal to the cost of an equivalent service is unreasonable.  ;-)

Maybe that would scare MS into fixing a problem that has been in existence since 2013 (at least)...
