I have created several news items with the dates out of order.
Is it possible to change the created date for these?

Hi slash,

I have done a test in my environment and find the created date of news cannot be changed.

For your situation, you can copy item 1 and use it as a template for a new news item. Open Item 1, click "New" in the ribbon and select "Copy of this news post" to copy this news post. Then give the template a new name and publish it.

For manage your news posts, you can click "see all" in the top right of your news web part > "Manage posts". You can change the order of News item in this page. (If you copy news post as a template in this page, the created date of the new news post will not change)

Refer to below article for more information about how to mange news posts On a SP page:

Hi slash,

Where did you create the news item? In the news web part? Please provide more information and screenshots for helping us solving your issue.

Per my knowledge, it is difficult to change the created date of items in SPO.

Best regards,

Allen Bai

Yes, these were created in the news web part. I have 4 items:

  • Item 1 (Created Jan 1.)
  • Item 2 (Created Jan 2.)
  • Item 3 (Created Jan 3.)
  • Item 4 (Created Jan 4.)

I want to change the date of the item created on Jan.1 to be the newest item.
Is this possible or would I just need to create a new news item?

Hi slash,

Per my knowledge, it is impossible to change the created date of the news item. Also we cannot change the order of news items.

For your situation, you need to create a new news item.

Best regards,

Allen Bai

There should be a way to change the created date for a news item and the ability to change the order of news items in the news web part instead of only having the option to display by created date.

I need to back date news items to last year and there is no option to do this.

Thanks Allen. I did not see the "Copy of this news post" option before.
