UAC prompt not shown for standard account

Question

Thursday, September 27, 2018 9:42 PM

I was updating an application on a standard non-admin account. The app prompted for an update and I clicked a link in the app to start the installer. When the installer started, there was no UAC prompt asking for the administrator password. I installed the update, but no UAC prompt. The app was running as administrator. Is that why there was no UAC prompt? Or, do I have an issue?

Have you checked the UAC settings?

Drag the slider up to get always notification.

Hi,

According to the current situation, I suggest you confirm with your UAC setting through Control Panel > User Accounts > User Accounts > Change User Account Control Settings. Usually, UAC prompt shows when you set the first three security levels with the slider.

In theory, UAC is a security component that allows an administrator to enter credentials during a non-administrator's user session to perform occasional administrative tasks. Any application can be coded to request "elevation" UAC also forces administrators to operate with reduced privileges and then requires administrators to specifically approve administrative actions to regain full privileges to run tools that require these privileges.

Hope these are helpful.

The UAC slider is at the top--the highest level of protection. I would like to know  why I did not receive a prompt when installing an update from within a program. The program I was updating was running as Administrator. Would that be the reason why I did not receive a prompt?

Hi,

Any application can be coded to request "elevation" UAC. UAC also forces administrators to operate with reduced privileges.

Therefore, this is related to the coding of the program itself.
