Cannot burn 4.6G WIndows 10 installation ISO to DVD

Question

I've just downloaded a Windows 10 ISO for installation on a new computer. The problem is I cannot burn this ISO to a dvd. I've tried two different burner programs on two different computers. Is there a way to accomplish this? All I have access to are Windows 7 or Linux computer to do the burning.

Hello,

Make sure you are using discs and software that can burn DVD-9 since the size of the files requires it.

The size exceeded the DVD-5 which is limited to 4.38 GB or roughly 4,700,00 bytes, since the ISO is larger you need to use the a disc that supports a larger format

  • Which burning applications are you using?
  • Whatever it may be, search for How to Burn ISO with that specific application.
  • Insert a blank CD or DVD in your writable optical drive.
  • Right-click on the ISO file and select "Burn disk image."
  • Select "Verify disc after burning" to make sure the ISO was burned without any errors.
    Click Burn.

I've tried BURNCDCC on Windows 7 "File won't fit onto this disk!", BurnAware, also on Windows 7 - it ran for 12 hours at 0% written before I aborted. I also tried k3B on Linux.

Based on your answer NOT being "you can't do this", I assume it must be possible. Can you recommend a burner program?

The ISO file is 4,939,528,192 bytes, downloaded from Microsoft.

Thanks Darrell. That's probably the problem. I'd ask for advise on recommended software, but I solved the problem another way -- I returned the purchase to Microsoft and bought an actual DVD at my local computer store.

I think it's a bit irritating of Microsoft not to advise about the ISO size issue and say as part of the download instructions exactly what you said in your message about DVD-9, etc. Had that information been stated up-front I would have spent some time locating a DVD-9 burner program and not spinning my wheels trying different computers and different burners that didn't/couldn't work.
