We are using Document ID's and have been for some time. We just found or realized that using the document ID for PDF's do not open the PDF file, but only open the View Properties form (DispForm.aspx). We have the adobe iFilter installed. Am I missing something?

I think I found the issue.
I came across this: http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/33224/why-does-document-id-link-open-property-page-instead-of-document
I looked and under CA > Search > File Types, PDF was not present in this list.
I will have to reset the Search Index on a weekend to see if this resolves the issue, will post back in case this helps someone else

This was the issue. after we 1) added PDF to list of file types in CA, 2) reset the search index, and 3) rebooted the search/index servers, the links to PDF doc ids opened the PDF vs. opening the property page.
Hope this helps somebody!

Hi,
1. Check if the Document ID feature works fine for other document type such as .doc. If not, deactivate and reactive the feature and see how it works.
2. Select the PDF file, click View Properties. Click the Document ID hyper link. Does the PDF file open this time?
3. The link to locate the document should be:
http://SP2010Servername/_layouts/DocIdRedir.aspx?ID=DocumentID
Refer to the below articles for obtaining the more information about using Document ID feature:
Document ID Feature in SharePoint 2010

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ecm/archive/2011/10/12/document-id-in-sharepoint-server-2010.aspx
4. Also, test the issue on another browser to exclude the browser issue.
Thanks.

Tracy,
1. Yes, the Document ID feature works on .docx files
2. I select the Document ID hyperlink on the view properties page, and it just opens the same page (View Properties Page)
3. I am using the correct link: https://ourFarm/departments/Arch/_layouts/DocIdRedir.aspx?ID=ARCH-12-6
I tested on other site collections, and this is happening on all PDFs accross whole farm.

We are seeing the same problem on our SP2010 Intranet site. I have advised our users to link to documents via Document ID's but what we are seeing is-
If the Library is set to "open documents in the browser", Excel files fail to pen with a "cannot open document" error in the browser.
If the Library is set to NOT "open documents in the browser", Document ID links to PDF files open the file properties page NOT the document.
This is a problem. We are building a new knowledgebase Wiki and this means we can't used Document ID based links (which us supposed to be best practice) for any PDF files.
It has to be a common issue. Is there an administrative fix or patch available from Microsoft?
