VS2015 Documentation Offline Installer Download

Question

Wednesday, February 22, 2017 1:34 AM

Hi,

There seems to be a widespread lack of knowledge of where this can be found, assuming it is available at all. I've trawled the net, asked on the concierge chat, downloaded the Update 3 ISO and read this link (https://visualstudio.uservoice.com/forums/121579-visual-studio-ide/suggestions/3140111-make-all-msdn-documentation-available-off-line) at uservoice: And nothing.

Someone please tell me that this issue is getting some attention with a view to resolving this. Or better yet, someone has already fixed it.

The problem for me is that in our organization (and many other organizations have the same policies) that I can only install with an admin account as my regular user account is not granted local admin access. But, the admin account is blocked from internet access. Some organizations I have worked for have developer workstations air gapped from the internet altogether. You can have a guess what type of organizations those are...

And yes, I have the tool found at https://vshd.codeplex.com/ but it also doesn't work for reasons I have not been able to determine without debugging it. I have my own work to do and simply have not had the time to do that.

Thanks for reading.

Hi MiBoffin,

Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.

I really understand how much inconvenience it brings to your work, the votes are really high but seems not an appropriate way come out yet.  I try to research for this, but only find the Microsoft Visual Studio and .NET Framework Documentation (ISO image).

In the uservoice page, Den mentioned that entire documentation sets in the form of PDF files.

Currently, we could go to /en-us/  to view our necessary documentation.

You could tell us which documentation you need for program development, for example, if you need C# relevant articles,  please click "Download PDF" from the lower left corner of the page, then right click and save it to your local space.

This download action may take you a while, after complete, please use a PDF reader to open and learn about this technical article.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,

So in other words, there is no solution. I've already investigated those options.

I just want integrated help like I've always had in previous versions of Visual Studio. PDFs, web pages are not substitutes for those of us that are forced to work disconnected.

Sorry, but this is not an answer.

Hi MrBoffin,

For this well-known issue, I really would like to help you solve this , and I know it may not be an effective way, but did a lot research, indeed not a suitable workaround come out yet.

As far as I know, the VS 2017 RTM is coming soon, Waiting for this latest version is also a choice, the VS docs may be released then after improve and perfect.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation :)

The link (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/visualstudio/opbuildpdf/temp2015/ide/TOC.pdf?view=vs-2015&branch=live) referenced in your reply is broken and, presently, unavailable.

Can you, please, assist and advice with a valid and working alternate link?

Thank you and God Bless.
