Difference between O365 group and distribution group

Question

Thursday, May 3, 2018 11:00 PM

I had my distribution group synced with O365 Cloud then i removed it from OU to stop the syncing and made a cloud distribution group in O365 and added users to it but the users were unable to receive the email send to the distribution group. Later i realized that i created O365 group then after deleting it I again created an O365 distribution group and added users to it now they are able to receive email sent to this group

i just wanted to know why users were unable to receive email in O365 group

what is the difference between these groups?

Member of distribution group directly receives mail in inbox, whenever someone sends a mail to the email address associated with distribution group. whereas O365 group shows as an individual entity in outlook and owa if the user is a member of office 365 group.

whenever any one sends mail to office 365 group it does not land in the inbox rather it directly lands in the separate group folder in outlook or owa

and also,

office 365 group can be created by any user from outlook as well. it can contain conversation, file, one-note. this type of groups also can be accessed from Microsoft team and members can directly contribute anything in it

Agree with above.

In Office 365 Group, we can share inbox, calendar, document, OneNote and team site between group members.
It will be used for team collaboration. More information, refer to: Learn about Office 365 Groups
