trying to get bitlocker to encrypt our HD on a Dell inspiron 7520 has been a nightmare.
Firstly, it said "This device can’t use a Trusted Platform Module" . The laptop has no TPM module.
I followed this article to setup password/USB access:
https://helpdeskgeek.com/help-desk/fix-device-cant-use-trusted-platform-module-enabling-bitlocker/
Now when I rebooted, bitlocker simply says it cant encrypt the HD becuase it is not unlocked automatically. This is another incorrect error message as there is nothing locking the HD - there is no HD password or similar.
Googling, it was advised to update BIOS, which I did (To A15)
Then I enabled bitlocker for whole HD again, entered a password, saved the key to USB and also to windows account.
Now when I reboot, and enter my windows login, it says "Unmountable Boot Volume"
Does this mean my HD is now trashed, and everything is lost?

It seems that the Master Boot Record has been corrupted, please refer to this similar case for a hint, you may need some tools for data recovery.
Cannot successfully unlock drive after BitLocker enabling and restart Windows; "unmountable boot volume" error after unlock
