Hi,

I was trying to install "R" for visual studio when I got stuck. The error message says "install operation did not finish successfully. Please reinstall or repair Visual Studio."

I tried to uninstall/delete visual studio and start over again but the system won't let me. Please can you let me know how I get install Visual Studio and get the "R" tool installed. I have been wasting lot of time on this now and do not know what to do.

Thanks,

Naveen

Hi Naveen,

Welcome to MSDN forum.

According to the error message “Install operation did not finish successfully. Please reinstall or repair Visual Studio.” to work around this issue, please find the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0\Setup\VS\the edition of your visual studio and if the value for InstallResult is 3010, change it to 0. Otherwise, perform a repair of the product as requested.

You can go to Control Panel Programs and Features and find the VS 2015 item and right-click it, choose change-repair or please download a healthy ISO file and use it to repair.

If this issue persists, please help us to collect the VS installation logs. Please use http://aka.ms/vscollect to gather the installation logs. After using it, you will find vslogs.cab from %temp% folder. Please upload the file to https://skydrive.live.com/ and share the link here.

Best regards,

Joyce

Hi Joyce,

Thanks for the elaborate explanation and instruction. Funnily enough, the next day after posting my problem I went in my Control Panel and "Uninstall a program". I thought to uninstall it and right clicked on the Visual Studio icon. There was an option saying "change" and I chose that one. From there onwards I followed the instructions and left it running. Few hours later I restarted the computer and visual Studio was working again.

Unfortunately I am not able to vote "mark as answer" as I did not followwed the procedure recommended by yourself, but thanks agiain for trrying to help me.
